Showers

There are multiple things you can do to improve your mood. Google has several articles that suggest meditation, exercising, singing, and taking showers to help you relax and have a more positive mindset to tackle your day.

For everyone that says taking a shower can improve your mood . . . they obviously do not have children.

Like yesterday's shower. Everyone had eaten their breakfast and were watching a show, so I decided to sneak off and take a quick shower. I turned the water on, and before I had a chance to lather my hair with shampoo the bathroom door opened.

My son had taken his diaper off.

Super.

I try to hurry. Then my daughter has to come in and use the bathroom.

Perfect.

I hear the baby crying the background.

Of course.

And last but not least, my other son comes in and insists on opening the shower curtain for all to see me in my glorious state.

Yep.

The shower improved my mood alright.

When I asked my daughter why they insisted on bothering me every.single.day when I hop in the shower - why they wait to be their naughtiest when I try to take five minutes to quickly wash and shave, she simply said, "Because that's my life."

How profound.

When my husband is home I think, Yes! This is my chance to take a shower uninterrupted because they can ask their dad to get them a drink, sing them a song, read them a story (I get asked to do those things almost daily when I am in there) and I won't have to feel rushed.

That's a joke.

They still come running to me for anything and everything they need.

There are some times I will shower without any interruptions.

If I am not bugged by anyone, though, I know they are doing something really bad. Like drawing all over their bodies with a pen. Or opening the fridge and eating whatever they want. Or getting into the baby wipes and throwing them all over the house.

You may be reading this and think that I'm complaining. I'm not. :-) I love my life and I love my terrors more than any words can describe. I'm just speaking fact.

Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord : and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. (Psalm 127:3-5)

To the mom who is stressed . . . and I am talking to myself as well . . . you may not ever be able to enjoy taking a shower until the last little bird has flown the coop. It's a bummer. But don't forget the reason why you're a mom. They are a heritage from God!

Moms sacrifice a lot for their children, but isn't it worth it?

When our sons and daughters grow up to be amazing men and women of God, we will finally realize that the little things that stressed us out, like not being able to shower alone, were nothing to be upset about.

Chin up, sweet moms. You are not alone!

  1. I laughed when I I read this post. When I want to take a shower I threaten my children, sometimes it works and sometimes its pointless. If Sam is home I threaten him to keep the kids away, but I am still nervous what I will return to in the living room ot how many fights I should have broke up. :-)
