Our first camping trip!

Last week we tossed around the idea of going camping over the weekend.  We almost didn't do it, but we knew we deserved a weekend getaway and the kids would have a lot of fun!  So we packed the car and made sure we were ready by the time Paul got off work on Friday and left for the most relaxing weekend ever!

Well...

We got lost.  We were almost to the lake when we took a wrong turn and drove a long time down the wrong road.  Whaddya gonna do.  We did get back on track and found where we were supposed to be.  Paul headed straight for the lake to go spear fishing and the kids and I went down to the beach!

Max absolutely loved the water.  He didn't act afraid at all!  He enjoyed playing in the sand and water.  It was the perfect temperature too!  I enjoyed watching my kids play and have so much fun.  I enjoyed just sitting and knowing I didn't have to do anything!

Doesn't this look funny?  We're here in the mountains and there are seagulls!

Paul and Kirby didn't get any fish that night, but they had so much fun!  Can you tell?  They would try again the next day and still come back empty-handed, but they had a great time being out in the water and almost catching "the big one."

The scenery was just beautiful and I knew I had a very relaxing weekend ahead of me.  Laying around on the beach, reading my book, playing with my kids...it was going to be fantastic!  The kids did not act bored once -- sleepy, yes, but they were running around everywhere enjoying their first camping trip!

Zoe looks so funny in this picture, but it's the best I could take of her eating a s'more!

The kids were having a blast eating s'mores and being around the campfire!

Even baby Titus -- who didn't leave my side.

The next day we enjoyed a yummy pancake breakfast and waited for the sun to warm us up a little bit.  As soon as it got warm we got dressed and headed to the beach!  We spent many hours down there and it was wonderful!

Sometime in the afternoon we had to say goodbye to Paul's family.  The kids HATED to see them go, since we just got there.  We had fun with them the one day we got to see them!  Gram helped sweeten the sad moment with cookies, though.  That helped. :-)

Even Titus got a yummy cookie!

Here is a picture of my beautiful family on our first camping trip!

After we took our family picture we decided to take a walk by the lake.  While walking I noticed lightning on the other side of the hills and kept bugging Paul with my worries of a storm coming.  He assured me over and over that the wind was blowing the storm away from us.  No worries.

We got back to our tent and the wind had picked up some.  We decided to just go to bed and we were sure the wind would calm down soon.  The wind only got worse and worse, and guess what happened?  The lightning was right over top of us!

The wind ripped the rain cover part of the tent off -- I like to call it the roof -- and that kind of freaked the kids out, but I put them all to bed anyways while Paul got out of the tent to try to fix the problem.  This is what happened next...

Me: Ok kids, let's hold hands and say our prayers.  'Thank you, Jesus, for this wonderful day-"

A gust of hurricane wind came and completely leveled the tent with the kids and I in it!  You should of heard the screams of terror from the kids!  They were beside themselves!  It's actually pretty funny now!

Paul tried putting the tent together when I noticed a huge gaping hole in the wall of the tent.  Oh, did I forget to mention the borrowed tent?  ::sigh::  How disappointing.

We finally gave up once the lightning got worse and it started to sprinkle.  I packed up the kids real quick and then Paul and I packed up our camping area in the dark.  It seemed like it took forever, but we threw everything in the car and then left just as the rain started to pour.

We made it to Great Falls and we both were exhausted.  We found a hotel room on priceline and decided to head home the next morning.  We got to the room, put the kids to bed, and I headed to the bathroom to take a much needed shower.  Titus started to cry but I didn't even care, I wanted a shower so bad!  I went to start running hot water when I went looking for shampoo and conditioner.  There was none in sight!  There was soap, but no shampoo.  Then I noticed the sign that said any extras, like shampoo and conditioner, could be purchased at the front desk.  ::sigh::  So I gave up and rescued my crying baby who didn't calm down and go to sleep till 4:30 in the morning.

Paul got up in the morning and went to the continental breakfast to bring something back for the babies.  When he came back, he tossed a couple packages of muffins on the bed for the kids.  When I asked what they had for breakfast he said packaged muffins and fake fruit.  Haha!  Perfect!  The kids loved the muffins, so that is great!  They got something in their tummy and Mommy and Daddy headed for Starbucks.  Liquid breakfast. :-)  Yummy!

We spent the rest of the day in Great Falls and then headed home around dinner time.  Once we parked Zoe said, "Can we go camping again?"  I'm thankful they're not scarred!  As soon as we got home I threw all three babies in the tub!  I enjoyed my hot shower -- and my shampoo and conditioner.

So our weekend didn't work out the way we planned.  It kind of was a bummer.  But we had fun and we have some laughs about the kids' first camping experience!  Hopefully it will work out a little bit better next time.  Ha!

Zoe's broken arm

The plan was that as soon as Paul closed the store on July 2 we would all get in the car and drive all night to go to a cousin's wedding in Washington state.  I was so surprised at how everything was falling into place -- I packed early, got my house clean, with the help of Paul's dad the care was cleaned and packed and ready to go.  7:00 p.m. rolled around and we were putting last minute things away in the car when Zoe fell off the porch swing.  She wasn't being crazy or anything...just sitting on the swing and decided to get down.

When I heard her scream I could tell she was in pain, but I had no idea it was so serious.  I tried to calm her down by holding her, we prayed for her, we offered her a cookie, blah blah blah.. nothing was making her feel better.  Paul walked in the door and we told him what happened and we both made the decision to take her to the ER and have her arm checked out.

On the way there she was falling asleep, but every time Paul hit a bump or we made the slightest move she would cry out in pain.  I knew it was serious.  I prayed the whole time for my little girl.  All the while I felt sick to my stomach because I had to watch my little girl suffer.

Going to the ER is never fun.  They always take for.ev.er. to get anything done.  The time came for Zoe to get X-rays.  Paul carried her in and I followed behind.  The screams coming from my baby made me cry and, again, I felt so sick watching and feeling helpless.  I just wanted this all to be over!

I think we were in the ER for a total of 4 hours.  They told us that Zoe had Nursemaid's Elbow and wrapped her arm with an ace bandage, gave her the tiniest sling they had, told us to give her ibuprofen for the swelling, and gave us the clearance to drive through the night.

I was talking to Paul and asking her if she would feel up to the trip.  Would she even want to be the flower girl anymore?  She must have overheard me because she had the most serious look on her face and said, "Mom, I am going to the wedding and I'm going to drop the petals."  We got the rest of the family and drove through the night heading toward Seattle!

When we were about 2 hours away from Seattle I got a voicemail from the ER doctor saying he was going over Zoe's X-rays with the radiologist and the radiologist said Zoe DID have a fracture and there was a chance of her arm being dislocated.  I. Was. Furious.  I said, "Well what do I do now?!  You said it was ok to go and we're 2 hours out of Seattle!"  He told us to immediately go to and ER in Seattle and have them check her out.

We took Zoe to Children's Hospital in Seattle and they were absolutely amazing!  When I told the story I could tell they thought our ER was crazy.  Join the club!  We were only in there for 2 hours and Zoe felt so much more comfortable with them than she did with the people at our local ER!  They put a hard splint on her because she still had some swelling, and I scheduled an appointment for her to get a cast as soon as we got home.

After all that junk was over with we headed up to Darrington to Paul's papa's house and we stayed there till after the wedding.  While we were there my mom sent a package and it happened to have some surprises in it -- like Tangled!  My mom sent the package before Zoe broke her arm.  It's almost like God told her Zoe needed it ahead of time!  She was SO excited and told me over and over how much she loves the movie. :-)

On Tuesday we went to our local orthopedic surgeon and he took more X-rays of Zoe's arm (cha-ching, cha-ching, right?) and showed me the results.  Apparently the ER sent over their X-rays while we were gone and considered her break a Type 4 break which mostly involves surgery.  They did not tell me that over the phone which, again, made me furious with our local hospital.  But the doctor said that she had a very common fracture, showed me the X-rays and explained all the details with me which made me feel so much better.

Zoe picked her favorite color and the doctor put on the tiniest little cast ever and said we were good to go.  He was so nice in a gruff way!  It was like I was talking with my own Papa. ;-)  I immediately liked him and knew he was the best.

In two weeks we go back for a follow-up with more X-rays and we'll see where she's at as far as her healing!  Zoe is back to her normal self now that she has a cast on.  She definitely feels more comfortable knowing her arm doesn't hurt anymore.  I'm thankful for that!  She now is ready to help with most everything around the house...except maybe cleaning up her toys. ;-)  That is when I'm reminded with the cutest speech impediment, "But Mom...I have a bwoken awm."

When I think about everything we have gone through in the past week I get to feeling a little overwhelmed.  No one likes hospital bills.  Yikes!  But I know that all things work together for good to them that love God.  He has a reason behind everything that happens in our lives...whether they are good or bad.  I have peace knowing He will never fail us nor forsake us!

Oh, and now I am looking into plastic bubbles for each of my children.  Just kidding.  But seriously. :-)

Things that go bump in the night

We had a pretty wild storm last night!  I don't know if I have ever experienced anything like that before.  I got caught driving alone with my three babies dodging branches, people, and large dumpsters praying that God would keep me safe because I had no idea what was going on!

When we were safely home and all babies were tucked into their beds, I just laid there with eyes wide hoping the wind would calm down.  I.hate.wind.  I just knew that as soon as I relaxed a branch would be flying through one of my kids' windows!

As soon as my body started to relax and I dozed off, I soon awakened because I heard intruders in my house!  They even came into my room!  I turned on the light and I saw this guy trying to climb into my bed:

I am not used to my children being capable of getting out of bed on their own yet.  It scared the living daylights out of me!

I tucked him back in bed and told him to go to sleep, and then went to back to bed myself.  I was just starting to dream about weird things when I heard coughing.  I woke up and knew that he was out of bed again so I went searching..

The goofy kid was laying on the floor in the living room with his blanket wrapped around his head.  No idea why!

It's time to use the baby gate so he doesn't get used to wandering in the middle of the night!

Will we ever see the light?

A couple nights ago Zoe was complaining about not feeling well.  I didn't think much of it at first because I had noticed she was in the habit of saying "me not feel dood" a lot since catching the flu bug earlier in the month.  Well.. she was serious this time.  Poor Zoe threw up all over me, herself, the floor.. I was slipping on it trying to get her to the nearest toilet or trash can.. I'm sure we were a sight!

After she threw up her whole dinner I prayed that it was just a fluke and she would be ok, but I could tell by her face that we were in for a long night.  I made a bed for Zoe and I on the couch, kissed Paul goodnight and wished him a happy anniversary (did I forget to mention that part?) and tried to keep Zoe comfortable.

Even though Zoe didn't have anything left in her system she was still dry heaving and throwing up whatever she could every 15-30 minutes.  It was a nightmare.  Since I couldn't get any sleep, I decided to finish up the third season of Dowton Abbey.  Big mistake.  At 3:00 in the morning I'm bawling my eyes out all alone!

After making myself miserable by watching that show, I tried to get some rest.  Like I said before, Zoe was throwing up every 30 minutes so by the time I felt my body relax I would jump up and grab her bucket just in time for her to lose her contents.

6:00 a.m. came bright and early.  I could hear Paul hit the snooze a couple of times.  I don't blame him!  He later told me that he was up the whole night.  Every time he heard Zoe throw up he would pray for her.  Unfortunately it came time for him to go to work and I didn't see him again till later in the afternoon.

Thankfully Paul's mom came over and took Max so I could take care of Zoe without chasing him around.  She also brought Zoe some yogurt and jello --- things that would be light on her tummy.  I spent the whole day rubbing Zoe's back as she was bent over her bucket.  I couldn't help but get a little emotional (I was tired, ok?!) and beg God to touch my poor little girl.

We watched a lot of kid movies and tv shows on Netflix.  At one point in time Zoe's body let her get some rest and she took a little nap.  I took advantage and napped too.  Forty-five minutes did not help me feel better at all!  I'm sure it didn't for Zoe either!

Paul got off work and picked up Max for me.  When they came home, they proudly brought in a pretty balloon and little kitty with bunny ears for their sick girl.  It made Zoe's day!  She loved her little present from Dad and Bub!  Around 9:00 that night Zoe seemed to act more like herself.  She was even wanting candy!  Crazy girl.

I am so thankful we didn't have a second night of throwing up.  Zoe slept through the night and even slept in some this morning!  Her body needed it!  The bummer part is that not long after she woke up she was emotional.  She cried over everything all. stinking. day.

It wasn't long before everyone else in the house was chiming in and crying with her.  Over nothing.  A Momma only has a certain amount of patience before she gets a permanent tick!  Just kidding.  But seriously. =D

I can tell she is not 100% yet, and I do feel bad for my little girl.  I have prayed for her all day asking God to touch her and make sure she doesn't relapse!  That would be awful for her.  I guess we shall see how she feels in the morning!  Hopefully well enough to go to Sunday school..

This winter has been the worst for people getting sick.  I hate it!  I want everyone to be healthy again and I want us to have warmer weather so we can enjoy the outdoors!  Will we ever be able to go outside again?

The weather was beautiful today!  Most of the ice in my front yard has finally melted --- I can put my Christmas trees and reindeer yard decorations away now!  But I can't help but wonder if there's one more blizzard coming.. it is Montana you know!

By the way, I thank God that this little guy has been staying well!  He has only had a stuffy nose here and there but that is IT!  Benefits of being a nursing baby!

I guess I better try and get some sleep just in case I am needed in the middle of the night.  You never know around here!  ::grumble::  Winter is not my favorite time of year.  Well.. the last part of it anyways!  C'mon spring!

Missing Daddy

So Paul left Sunday afternoon to start his training for his new position at his job.  What a horrible day!  As Paul backed out of the driveway and drove away I had to hold Zoe back because she wanted to run for him.  I tried to explain that he was going to "work" but she is too smart for that.  She cried for him for five hours.

Going to church was pretty rough only because I wasn't in the mood to be around people -- Zoe wasn't either.  The service was really good, though, and I appreciated the message.  Afterward we went to dinner at Pizza Hut.  Normally Zoe is crazy about that place, but on Sunday she just wasn't in the mood.  My dinner was spent taking care of two crying babies.

My sister-in-law spent the night with me on Sunday night.  Another friend dropped by too and we spent the evening walking the dog and watching comical movies.  I stayed up till around 1:30 because I wanted to be so exhausted that I didn't care if I went to bed alone.  Even being completely exhausted I had a hard time.  As soon as I laid down I felt myself have a panic attack.  I was so close to calling Paul and telling him to come home right now.  I was seriously freaking out -- tossing and turning, pacing, not able to breathe..  I finally snapped out of it and prayed to God:

God, I desperately need you right now!  Please cover my whole body in your divine peace and give me the courage I need to do this.  I cannot be like this for a week.  My kids need me right now.  PLEASE help me to gain control over my emotions!

Immediately I felt God's divine peace cover my body from head to toe.  I thanked Him so much I fell asleep with a prayer on my lips.

Monday was a lousy day.  I'm not even going to sugar coat it!  Zoe was still emotional -- "I want Daddy, Mom. I want Daddy."  When my mother-in-law came to pick up her daughter because they were leaving for a week long camping trip, Zoe had the worst meltdown.  She was seriously freaking out.  I felt so bad for my baby.  I held her and comforted her the best that I could.

We didn't get anything done that day.  The house still looks like a bomb blew up.. I hardly ate anything because I had no appetite at all.. I cried every few minutes..  It was a nightmare.

I was invited over to my brother and sister-in-law's house for dinner last night, and a part of me wanted to go, but I knew I was such a wreck I would not be a fun person to be around.  Plus, the way Zoe handled Paul and her Gram leaving, I didn't think she would do so well with going over to her cousin's house and not seeing her there (they went on the camping trip too).  I couldn't do that to Zoe.  And not to mention I was too nervous being out after dark.  Instead, I made Hamburger Helper and the kids and I ate dinner in front of the TV watching America's Funniest Home Videos.  Pathetic, aren't we?

I put the kids to bed and stayed up late to work.  I have a lot of work to do this week and because I didn't do anything the whole day, I knew I needed to do some before bed.  I stayed up till a little after midnight before I felt ok with going to bed.

I set up the pack-n-play in my bedroom for both the kids to sleep in there.  They have slept together multiple times and in the past they had done so well!  I wanted them with my in my room so that if anything happened -- a break-in, fire, etc. -- I would have my babies close by instead of them being on the opposite ends of the house.  Who would I go to first?

Anyways, they went to bed just fine.  After midnight I tiptoed in and crawled into bed and you know what?  No tears. =)  I knew I got one day down and I could do this.  Not even 20 minutes later both kids tossed and turned.  They were thirsty, they needed diaper changes, they were plumb restless!  I figured it wasn't going to work having them sleep in the same bed, so I brought Zoe in bed with me.  I figured I would give it a try and see how she would do.

Nope.

She wasn't going to sleep with me either.  I finally put her in her own bed, but I could still hear her toss and turn.. ask for drinks.. whine.. sing songs.. you name it!  She didn't fall asleep till around 5:30 this morning -- which means Mommy didn't get to fall asleep till around 5:30 this morning.

-_-

The kids "slept in" till around 9:30 this morning.  I was pretty bummed when they woke up because I was still so exhausted, but what can ya do?  I brought my babies to bed with me and we lounged around and watched Blues Clues in bed before breakfast.

So far the kids have had their oatmeal and I am still working on my morning coffee.  When I'm done with this post I plan on going through my chore chart and getting this house whipped back into shape.  I am so thankful that God is giving me the motivation I need.  I do not want another day like yesterday.  One cannot live like that for a whole week.

I have so much I want to get done today -- I want to do everything on my chore chart, I have a lot of work because I'm helping a coworker this week, I want to start Zoe on pre-preschool (I was supposed to start yesterday), Baylee needs her walks.. etc.  The rest of this week is going to fly by for me -- thank the good Lord!

If I get everything done that I want, I would like to take the kids to the park -- Zoe would love to go on the "woo" (slide) and I think Bubba would like to play with her too.  We shall see.

My Mom told me yesterday that I am going to realize just how much I can handle this week.  It is definitely a growing up lesson.  Obviously it has been hard the past couple days, but it's a lesson I needed to learn eventually.  I can do this!  One day at a time...

Praising in the Storm.

Source: amazon.com via Grace on Pinterest

Paul and I have been going through some things this past week that have not been easy.  Sometimes life gives you a lesson that seems really unfair to have to learn.  We have been doing a lot of praying and trying to make sure that our thoughts and reactions are praising God for what we DO have.. not what we may have to GIVE UP.

I don't know why it seems like problems get dumped on you while others may never feel what you have to go through, but I know I'm not in Job's position.  At least I have a darling little home, I have my handsome, hard working husband, and I have 2 beautiful, fun loving babies to keep me company.  Not to mention a third little bundle of joy in October-November.

I think Casting Crown's song Praise You In This Storm fits perfectly to how Paul and I feel -- and probably a lot more people out there right now!

I was sure by now
God You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say "Amen", and it's still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

And I'll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
And every tear I've cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

God is so good to His children.  Life is unfair sometimes, but it makes me forward to Heaven that much more.  No more sorrow.  No more pain.  No more feeling desperate.

No matter what you're going through today, remember to always praise the Lord through your storm!  Rejoice in hope.  Continue in tribulation. Continue instant in prayer!

Morning Person vs. Night Owl

Zoe is a morning person.
She gets up between 7:00-8:00 every morning.
Mostly around 7:00.

Max is a night owl.
He doesn't really go to sleep till around 2:00-4:30.
Mostly around 4:30.

Mom is a zombie.
She drinks 4-6 cups of coffee, tea, coke to function.
Mostly around 6.

(I'm writing this while drinking a cup of iced Coke Zero.  Ha!)

Bringing the new year in with a BANG!

After ringing in the new year eating junk food and playing with the new Xbox Kinect, Paul and I were ready to go home.  We had a lot of fun, but we were ready for bed -- especially Zoe.  I'm used to staying up late, but it seemed like as soon as the clock struck twelve my eyes got really heavy.

As we were heading home we realized that we were driving into a blackout.  It was the craziest thing driving down the street and all of a sudden there be no lights; houses, traffic lights, even street lights were not on for blocks.  Looking down the neighborhoods was pretty eery.  You couldn't see a thing!

The farther we drove the more serious the situation became to me.  I started praying that we had power at our house because I just wanted to go to bed and sleep.  As we neared our house I was relieved because it looked like we were the first street to have lights right next to the blackout.

Nope.  It wasn't our street.  That was the street behind us.

Obviously Paul and I were a little bummed out about the situation.  We decided to drive around to see if we could find the source of this.. situation.  It seemed like half the town of Havre had no power, though I'm sure that is not the case.  We never did find out the reason for such a huge portion of town to be powerless.

Eventually we came back home.  After much thinking we decided to brave the lack of heat and just go to bed.  With it being -20 out we were a little nervous, but we figured if it got too bad we'd bum a couple sleeping bags in a living room of a loving family member.

We turned the faucets on so our pipes wouldn't freeze, I turned on my bedside lamp so whenever the power would come on I would know and be able to turn off all water.  We piled a bunch of blankets on the bed and all 3 of us snuggled close.  I was so wired from the power not being on that I could not sleep.  The power finally came on around 2:30 and I was so relieved!  We turned the faucets off and tried to get some sleep.  For reals this time.

I tossed and turned all night.  Every time I slightly dozed off I would dream random dreams that involved keeping Zoe warm -- and no power.  ARGH!  I finally dozed off around 6:00 in the morning and got about 3 hours of sleep.

Happy. Stinking. New Year.

Other then that, we had a great night!  Paul and I are excited about what will happen in the year 2011.  Maybe the new year will bring a second baby?  There are endless possibilities!  All I know is that God is going to bless us and in everything that happens, good or bad, we will depend on the Lord.  I hope you do the same!

Oh, and just for the record, Xbox Kinect is not for the weak hearted!  Just sayin'.

Hot blooded! Check it and see.. I got a fever of 103

Note: Parts of this post are slightly personal.  For my few male readers, I suggest you skip this post.  For your own sake.  Thanks!

This past weekend was spent on the couch with a painful breast infection.  I believe it started on Thursday..  all of a sudden I had the chills, body aches, and I looked like I had a whacked out boob job- thanks to being engorged.  With a lot of rest, fluids, and plenty of prayers I was good to go by Sunday.  {whew}  Thank you Jesus!  Of all weekends I don't know why I had to choose that one to be sick!  It was our last Saturday before our big church fundraiser and everyone else was out of town save my sister-in-law.  Poor Mandalou!  I'll make it up to her.. maybe I'll buy her a coffee this week during the photo shoot!

Yesterday my little princess officially turned 3 months old.  There will be a photo shoot this week- with her pink Chuck Taylor's of course!  Though plenty some think we're crazy, Paul and I decided today that it is time to break Zoe of her pacifier.  I know, I know.. she's only 3 months old!  But she isn't totally hooked on it anyway.  We hold it in her mouth most of the time.  So.. no more!  Let's see how it goes.

Now that I'm back in business I need to make sure my house is picture perfect since the photographer will be staying at our house, and he arrives sometime Thursday.  {EEK!}  Psh.. no big deal.. I got it all under control..  {gulp}

30 Days of Truth will be coming up next!

Sleeping with the enemy.

I'm not talking about my husband..

I'm not talking about my daughter..

I'm talking about the tummy ache..

Last night was pretty rough for my little girl.  At first I figured she was fighting sleep, as usual.  So I followed my usual routine.  Change her diaper.  Nurse her.  Burp her.  Give her the pacifier since she was still fussy.  Rock her.  Walk around and sing little lullabies.  Nothing was working!  So I tried Step 2: follow routine- again.

After awhile I figured she had a tummy ache.  I figured the best thing for her would be peppermint water.  Unfortunately for us all grocery stores were closed and we had not one stick of peppermint in the house.  Not even one lone peppermint at the bottom of my diaper bag from a restaurant.

So we had to wait it out.  Paul walked back and forth talking soothingly to her and patting her back.  After what seemed like hours (I'm sure it was just half an hour) she finally burped a big one and you could tell she felt relief.  As soon as she burped she lay her head against Paul's chest and closed her eyes.

You could tell she still felt troubled as lay against him trying to fall asleep.  Daddy made sure she slept in the bed with us, it was too dramatic for her to have to sleep all alone in her bassinet (next to the bed) after that.  I did not object.  :)
